The set on this page

75-ball bingo cards, 12 cards, 2 to a sheet: 6 sheets and 7 pages, the last being the caller’s sheet. The card is 186 by 128.3 mm with squares 37.2 by 23.25 mm, and the numbers set at 27.68 pt, large, because a number has to be read from across a hall.

The columns are the game

A 75-ball card is not 24 numbers taken from 1 to 75. Each column draws from its own fifteen: B from 1 to 15, I from 16 to 30, N from 31 to 45, G from 46 to 60, O from 61 to 75. That is what the letters across the top are for. When a caller says “under the G” every player looks in the same column, and a card that ignored the rule could not be played with a real caller’s set at all.

The middle square of the N column is free, which is why that column holds four numbers and the others hold five, and why a card has 24 numbers rather than 25.

How many different cards there are

More than will ever be needed. Each of the four full columns picks five from fifteen and the N column picks four, which is a number with fourteen digits in it. Two matching cards are not something you have to worry about here, but the press still checks every card against the ones already dealt, because the same code deals word cards where the space is much smaller.

The caller’s sheet

The last page lists all 75 numbers with their letters, B 1 through to O 75, to cross off as they are called. It is the sheet the caller keeps; the cards go out to the players.
